Blue Ocean Introduces First load & go™ Flow Cytometer for HIV/CD4 Monitoring at International AIDS Conference

Pembroke Pines, FL, July 13, 2011/ - Blue Ocean Biomedical introduces the LG Series Flow Cytometry Systems, the first fully automated, load & go systems for counting CD4 cells and other lymphocyte subsets.  These subsets (percent and absolute counts of T cells, B cells, and NK cells) are used in immune status monitoring for HIV-positive patients and in other medical conditions.  This system is being launched at the International AIDS Society (IAS) conference which is being held in Rome, Italy, July 17-20.

“Current flow cytometry systems require highly skilled operators and the workflow is slow, labor-intensive, and complicated,” said Ernie Thomas, President of Blue Ocean.  “With the LG Systems, the operator merely loads up to 40 blood tubes and the system does all the rest automatically.  This is the first flow cytometer that takes multicolor CD4 panels to the routine clinical level.”  All interested parties are invited to visit the Blue Ocean exhibit (booth #303) at the IAS conference in Rome.

Note:  The Blue Ocean LG Series flow cytometers conform with the requirements of the European IVD Directive.  They are not available in the United States.  Blue Ocean’s CR Series systems are for Research Use Only and are available in the US and internationally.

New Blue Ocean Load & Go™ CR Series Immune Monitoring Systems Debut at ISAC CYTO 2010

Pembroke Pines, FL, May 21, 2010 / -- Blue Ocean Biomedical introduced its new CR Series Immune Monitoring Systems at the XXV Congress of The International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC), called CYTO 2010, held in Seattle, Washington from May 8-12th, 2010.  Fitting the theme of the Congress, “Advances in Cytometric Technology and Applications”, more than 1,800 scientists and medical professionals from around the world were introduced to the CR Series, the first-ever flow cytometer to combine automated sample preparation and analysis in one compact instrument.

Among those impressed with the promise of the new technology presented at ISAC was Awtar Krishan, Ph.D., Professor of Pathology from the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine, and a member of ISAC, who found the CR Systems “revolutionary” in their design and productivity advantages.  “The CR System is quite unique in its small footprint and automation”, said Dr. Krishan.  With its built-in automation, the system requires minimal operator steps and makes immune monitoring much faster and simpler.   Dr. Krishan feels that, “the CR System will be of great help in reducing personnel costs, especially in developing countries where there is a great need for rapid and accurate flow analysis for patient monitoring.”  (At the Congress, Dr. Krishan was presented with the ISAC Membership Award in recognition of exceptional service to the cytometric community.),

“Due to its small footprint, many people thought they were looking at just an analyzer  until they saw the full functionality of the CR System with cap piercing and fully integrated sample preparation”, explains Blue Ocean CEO Mike Brochu.  “Since all current flow systems separate preparation from analysis, I believe our new design took many by surprise.”
